Metaphorically Speaking Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Metaphorically Speaking

Baby...
I have a desire,
For you to set...
That love you make,
To me on fire.

"I thought you had enough of me?
Remember you said,
Get up and leave and stay that way."

Was the Moon then full or new?
When the Moon is full,
My desire to be set on fire,
Isn't a crave...
On those bright lit nights.
Yet...
When the Moon is new,
So am I.
And that heat from you,
I want to feel it bloom.

"But...
It is almost noon.
And there is no Moon.
Full or new.
And my desire to set,
Us both wet into a flood of love...
I have always craved you that way."

Baby...
You know I can not swim.
And when that flood begins,
I have a fear of drowning.
Is it possible,
You and I could use scuba gear.
Just to have it close and near?

"But...
What about the heat,
And the fire that starts...
From our heads to our feet? "

Gee.
You would have to bring that up.
I forgot all about that.

"How could you?
You don't remember,
Using the fire extinguisher?
When the sheets began to flame.
Right before I whispered in your ear,
Prepare for the flood of my love.
I was whispering 'metaphorically'! "

You should have said that.
That night had been so dark.
And when you said,
The sheets are on fire.
That scared me.
Because I felt that too.
And when you began screaming,
A fire had started burning too hot.
Holding me tightly.
Shouting...
How you were going to drown me.
Drown me in a wet flood of love.
I was scared.
That's when I grabbed the fire extinguisher!

"Baby?
Baby listen to me carefully.
You and I need to make more love.
With or without the Moon.
I can come to you right now.
And explain to you,
What metaphorically means.
And...
Hopefully after that is understood,
Wherever that place you go,
Taking me to that place I go.
We both will know,
Our love making has taken us there."

Now I feel so stupid.

"Why? "

Telling you to get up and leave.
And to stay that way.
I've got to stop reading those books.

"No.
Don't stop.
Just don't leave me hanging.
Outside naked.
Under a bright Moon.
Wondering what I said.
And you...
Looking delicious AND crazed.
Holding an empty fire extinguisher."

Well...
I agree.
We need to make more love.

"Is that the end of that story? "

Hopefully yes.
Metaphorically speaking!

"From now on...
Let's keep it real.
Truth is better that way."

Naked!

"Most definitely.
I'll be there in 20 minutes."

Make it 10!
