Mirror - Poem by Sarah Roberts
I shouted into the darkness
And heard a faint reply
I yell once more and listened closely
All I heard was an echo.
Slowly, I take a step forward
Not believing I was alone
I shout: “Who are you? ”
It replied, “Who are you? ”
Still in disbelief
I scream, “Why are you here? ”
The echo was there again.
I continued to follow direction of the echo
Calmly I say, “Hello…? ”
Ahead I heard, “Who are you? ”
Cautiously I reply with my name.
I ask for theirs.
In a soft voice I hear, “No, WHO are you? ”
“I told you who I am, now who are you? ” I responded
It says, “I know who you are.-
I want to know why you are here.”
Confused, I reach an end to the darkness
It fades into light.
In front of me, there is a mirror
I looked at my reflection then looked around
It was only me.
Then I thought,
Who am I?
Why am I here?
