Mirror In The Moonlight Poem by Paula Glynn

Mirror In The Moonlight

I walk into the dark of my bedroom
The gold mirror standing there deceptively silent
The moonlight echoing the reflection
Perhaps my true reflection
Where I have no knowledge
Of what I will see:
What I will correctly predict

The future always seen as a rainbow
After the summer rain
The future always seen as echoes
Of everything that happens today
Events colouring the world
Colouring the never ending days
And never ending nights

And I gaze into the mirror
Underneath the moonlight
Finding darkness yet delight
The darkness a wicked spell
The darkness of evil that contains demons
And the darkness that surrounds
Those shadows waiting to capture me

I see shadows and movement
I see my reflection a demon face
I see shadows spring and attack
I see the enchanting night:
The never ending black
Where I yearn to see differently
And see a soul that isn't black

But my reflection distorts itself
And I wonder if this is me
I wonder what other evil I will see
And how to repent
And finally set my soul free
For the evil darkness
Should be the darkness of the universe:
Shining glittering stars and galaxies of hope,
Wonder, enchantment and beauty.
