Missing You Still Poem by Theodora (Theo) Onken

Missing You Still

Rating: 5.0

Your eyes were always my weakness
Today, they appear ever clear
It's hard to believe that you left this Earth
So many reminders of you my dear;

Your fragrance and the way you smiled
Always laughing even at the little things
Today, i am stirred to tears remembering
Today, another angel has gotten their wings;

I knew you by heart-truly i did
Every little freckle, mole or scar
Recalling the way you held me when i needed assurance
Tonight, i look to the heavens for a new star;

Sure enough it is there - gleaming
Shining with a brilliance that could only be you
A haunting remembrance comes calling daily
Oft' times turning my sunny day - a midnight blue;

Susan, again, i thank you for your amazing comments...This write is actually about my mother...who i lost in 1972...i wasn't that old and it was the first of many heartbreaking losses that would follow...it really never gets any easier no matter how many years or how old we are. after so many years, and so many losses, sometimes, i still have trouble dealing with the hurt that never really leaves me. i find when the pain overwhelms - i take to my pen and paper- -somehow, it helps to let it all out! You are a truly wonderful and understanding human being...not to mention brilliant...You would have made a brilliant psychiatrist, Professor of Literature...or instructor in writing. with your tremendous scope of words and unique ability to use them- i find i enjoy reading your comments almost as much as reading your poetry. i know you have a degree - but believe that you were born with the ability to write brilliant poetry.

This poem speaks for so many people who have been left behind by their loved ones. Those still here must find a way to miss their loved ones while still leading a good and relatively happy life- -it's is a terrible tight rope to walk. You speak with authority and it hurts to think of your sorrow. Yes, we all have gone through it if we're of a certain age but that doesn't negate the pain another person goes through. A compassionate write, my dear Theo.
