My First Love Poem by Myrtle Thomas

My First Love

My First Love

The wind softly whispers your name
in the quietness of the night
surrounded by your presence
I succumb to meditate to think of you
I have no lasting picture, to see your face
but I see your personality in everything around me

' My how you touch me '' in the silence your comfort comes
when no one else knows me, you still see me at my worst and best
Tenderly you are near me, though no one else can see
for I persevere to imitate you, I thoroughly fail
' How wonderfully you bought me ',
with your precious blood!
to face this life I was born into
you expressed your love in death

Lord how marvelous are your qualities!
to invite me into your heart
and call me a friend, to call me your child
a piece of clay you formed us in your minds design
then breathed into our nostrils, the breath that is yours

You hide me from danger under your wing of perfect peace
my protection lies in your name
and aloud I speak it like a song

In your words I have food to survive
on the bread of life it satisfies
me until you call me to yourself above
' How long Lord will you tarry ', as the world gets even worse?
your words foretold thousands of years ago of the worlds evil demise
(Hold me in your heart Lord) and always in your mind
for Lord I'm so lonesome for you, I'm like a stranger in a foreign land.
Hurry Lord to end this evil if for only a thousand years.

The Lord sees us at our worst and best. A good prayer poem to hymn before the Lord.
