My Fondest Childhood Memory Poem by Dee Daffodil

My Fondest Childhood Memory

Rating: 4.9

Homework, said my teacher,
Is to write a poem,
About your fondest
Childhood memory

Immediately, I began to shake
And within minutes
A cold sweat had
Come over me

I had dreaded,
Absolutely dreaded,
This day,
This moment in time.

I thought perhaps
I might find an excuse
Such as dogs dying
Or broken water pipes

I wondered
If I dropped the course
Would I get
A rebate?

And then
It dawned on me
The perfect line...
I'm afraid
I've had amnesia
All these years.

Dee, Maybe it's just me... but why does Angie Mae sound like a teacher?

Dee, this is a very interesting read. My first impression was - a fear of writing and personal expression. Of course after reading your last stanza, I read it again. Now there is something deeper; something personal, familial. This is a mark of good poetry - to leave the reading guessing? love, Allie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
