My Hearing Is Good. Poem by Tex T Sarnie

My Hearing Is Good.

Rating: 5.0

I've paid my entrance fee to get a seat in here,
but nothing is happening to bring me cheer.
Acoustics are good and you can hear every sound;
even profanities reach the higher ground.

Because of the acoustics, fewer words are spoken
but some don't care if the silence is broken.
Two gentlemen are discussing a failed blind date
and how she wasn't there because he arrived late.

I try to imagine just what kind of people they are
and if they live near to here, or come from afar.
A man is whispering to someone on his mobile phone
and everyone knows that he is not alone.

The harmonies in here are not to be recommended,
they make me squirm, but I think they're intended.
It's gone quiet and I think most people have gone,
but the sound of the occasional person still carries on.

I was just thinking how lemon-fresh it smells in here,
not like some places that I have visited this year.
Well, my visit here has finished and it's now time to go,
but I enjoyed listening to those that I'll never get to know.
