My Heart Has Betrayed Poem by Linda Barnes

My Heart Has Betrayed

Rating: 3.5

I hear keys at the doorway
Waiting for the doorknob to turn
Here comes the intrusion
Unwanted dread walks in

Wanting to feel passion
For someone like him
So honest and trusting
Why can't I love him?

Sitting alone together
My soul begins to evade
To see the hurt and confusion
I get up and walk away

Going through the motions
Conversation always strained
Being polite in this silence
Gets to be harder every day

When one has known loneliness
Sometimes you wish and pray
Asking for someone to love you
Would make life a better place

There will come a moment
When I will accept the fact
That love will not flourish
As my heart has betrayed
