My Mother's Memory Poem by Jessica Gabanyic

My Mother's Memory

Rating: 5.0

Laying in your bed,
I watched the sun come up,
And listened to you breath,
Your arm crossed over your face,
Your glorious hair a halo,
Spread out as it shimmered in the light,
Snuggling to your side,
I whispered 'I love you mommy, '
Before I drifted back to sleep,
Now fifteen years later,
Every tear that I shed,
Now reminds me of you,
How my childhood was lost,
And how being an adult was my only option,
The forced responsibility,
A painful reminder of the mistakes I had made,
The hours I spent in my room,
I wished that the clock could reverse,
So I could go back in time,
And tell myself what I know now,
But in the here and now,
I watch myself fall into the darkness
That I have grown to know,
I still whisper at night,
The same four words,
Hoping that one day we can be at peace,
And awaken from the darkened hole,
And find that the nightmare is finally over.

Heartbreaking. I hope you can emerge from the darkness and find the nightmare over. I have a poem with a similar title: Memories of Mother
