My Number One Poem by Brooke Luchich

It’s something that I can’t explain no matter how hard I seem to try,
To say that you don’t have this hold over me would simply be a lie.
I’m not quite sure how you affect me the way that you do,
All I know is that I’m still completely head over heels in love with you.
I was never looking for love but somehow you captured my heart,
And now looking back at the past I realise you were the very best part.
It’s amazing how just one word from you can bring a smile to my face,
And I’m not quite sure I’ll ever meet anyone who could take your place.
You showed me that reality could be so much better than any dream,
And that things aren’t always as bad as they may seem.
I remember you telling me to follow my heart and it won’t lead me to pain,
It took a lot for me to listen as I’ve been hurt time and time again.
So many of the things you have said to me randomly come to mind,
I guess having all those memories is why it’s so hard to leave it all behind.
Everyone keeps telling me to move on but it’s easier said than done,
Especially when you were my everything and will always be my number one.
This hurt gets me nowhere so I’ll continue to act like I’m over us to,
And maybe if I’m lucky then one day I’ll end up back with you.
