My Part In The Conversation Poem by Denis Mair

My Part In The Conversation

Rating: 5.0

(inspired by Ralph La Charity's poem 'respond/reply-')
..............................
What I need to heed this morning is a rousing call

that would snap me out of my 'irritable reaching' and into the light of day.

I keep groping, by a chain of inferences, for something 'out there,

trying to turn towards the strength of a source-realm that under-girds me.

To me, the path of entelechy must record the wisdom of a great composite Being,

which gathered ITSELF together as IT started the functions of matter rolling,

and since then we've been along for the ride, part of the slouch toward the birth

of creatures like ourselves that can only bud off from IT.

But my search for faith in such matters is just my part in a generation-spanning exchange,

to which I am forced to reply, because the issue of a transcendent concern

was injected into me by my history and language.

As a poet I know said: 'Even before it was born, the eagle's gaze was nailed to the dome of sky.'

But my part in the conversation about that great collective Being (alias 'Cosmic Man' or the 'Macranthrope')

in no way mitigates my rightful project of 'hollowing out a space, ' in a wintry season,

for singing, to the beat of my own heart,

about the here and now life-ordeal of self and confreres.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Here is the text Ralph La Charity's poem (with ellipses substituted for line breaks) : 'RESPOND...REPLY-'...there are oceans out there & we are in them… why you would even mention such a thing is… beyond the ken of our kind wouldn't you say… do you really think any of this can be modified… I mean it's been for Ever & talking about it… hasn't changed a thing butchery & confusion're… still the same old stair-downs & all writing's… done's what's kept our helplessness in focus no… wonder the moon'll still be there & the sun'll… keep on cooking & Song's the sole relief after… all not even love can relive the inevitabilities… yea Song & the time carved out for Singing's… Winter's moan rebukes slow ever Afters &... Now's still the Only Way the song resounds.

The theme of the poem is the importance of listening and understanding in conversation, as well as the idea that each person has a unique perspective to offer. Marvelous poem, wonderfully told. TOP Marks and thanks for sharing. Denis!
