Myth Of Freedom Poem by Joshua C. Whiting

Myth Of Freedom

Rating: 5.0

Myth of freedom screams loud and clear
Clamoring to what we hold so dear
Dreaming a lasting peace will appear
Not to have it evokes insecure fear

Freedom differs with each mentality
Problem is making it a permanent reality
Just a word used by powers to be?
Could it be squashed in a democracy?

Stifled in a dictatorship
Doled out as sweet nectar to sip
A ploy to palliate the masses
Economic control of all classes

When the freedom bell rings
And every voice sings
Who then will you blame?
As you discover, it’s all in vain

Short-lived ecstasy provides no recipe
But will betray you, deceptively
When war has ended, the masses rejoice
Leaders speak with a convincing voice

But all too soon, another war will begin
War after war, beginning of the end
Young ones compelled to fight and defend
A destructive and deadly trend

What is the “real problem” with humanity?
Will we ever surpass killing and calamity?
Is peace an impossible goal to achieve?
How can this catastrophe be relieved?

I feel the answer, I will never know
Before entering the soil, where we all must go
True freedom I will seek within
Happiness always, my compatible friend

Is there freedom in happy death or is that too a myth?
