Near My Grave Poem by Adams King

Near My Grave

Rating: 5.0

Near my grave do i stand
grey haired, bald and wrinkle skin
and my foot which step on this land
shall go beneath with a wooden coffin
from time has dragged me to this sweet home
seconds, minutes and hours must count
o near my grave have i come
to cease the ticking voice in the clock's mouth

deaf from the singing bird
will i lie to decompose
and sleep danceless on my bed
to the rhythmic song they compose
age shall shake me to endure awhile
but shake me still to fade away
to flow me to its shore like river Nile
and end my poor earthly days

I shall miss you brothers and sisters
but this must every man fulfill
for mortals are not to be forever
if we follow nature still
near my grave have i come to die
to end my dying quest on earth
and in perfect peace will rest I
until I triumph over death

the rain shall fall upon my grave
the gentle sun shall set on it
will they ever say that I am brave
to die wrinkled with scanty teeth
for I have end my struggle, yet
my song begins with sorrowful rhyme
and my loved ones eyes will always be wet
when their memories go back in time

watched by the sleepless midnight eye
the lifeless grave of mine
and dew the sky shall shed to cry
like drops of sweetest wine
to the blossom heart of rest
near my grave will I go
to the blossom of its very best
I pray the lord accept my soul.
