Never Heard Before Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Never Heard Before

Experience as much of life.
With a contributing at least,
Some curiosity.
Determine to be diverse.
Knowing those kept opinions made,
Are not just restricted...
To a few blocks,
Around the neighborhood.
And had been shared with others.

One never knows,
Who's ridiculous opinions...
Were the first to be heard.
Regardless how limited they may be.
Since this to do could just prove,
A giving of an incentive...
For others to explore,
Even more to adventure...
Places where they live.
With a claiming to know 'something',
They know nothing about.

"I'm telling you.
I saw this with my own eyes.
There they were,
Sitting on benches together.
Different kinds of people.
Laughing and joking.
It was as if I had entered another World."

-Lies!
Where did you see this? -

"I'm telling you.
There was this park.
With a pond and carousel in it.
And...
Believe this or not.
People were even laying on blankets.
Some snacking from picnic baskets."

-And where,
Do you claim to have seen this? -

"Downtown."

-How long has this place been there? -

"I have no idea.
I was afraid to ask! "
