No Country For Old People Poem by David Beckham

No Country For Old People

Through the eyes of my mother
I have learnt to see the world
And so years from now, when I am old and gray
I hope and pray that what I did was the right thing

You have a place in my life mother
You the only mother I know
But I am sending you off to an old peoples home
Because you deserve the kind of care that I can't afford

I am not sending you off because I am too busy
Neither I am not sending you off because I don't care
You have my utmost respect and love
And the least I can do is this

You'll make new friends at this new home
And be in the hands of caring people
The nurses will teach you Yoga
And you can play Domino in the sun

Today, I got a mail from you
And it read:

'Through, this isolation and deprivation
I have found a new joy in reading
That book on creation I always wanted to read
I have all the time in the world, to do that now'

Oh mother, I am so happy for you
I promise to check on you as always
And take you out on the weekends
Please know, I'll never, be too far away from you

Today, I got a mail from you
And it read:

The nurses asked me today...

'Do you have a family? '

And I told her what my grandmother told me
The same thing I told you growing up
The same thing I expect that you pass onto your kids
The same it should be from generation to generation'

'A mother should raise her kids and when the kids grow
They should turn around and raise their parents too
Come take me away from here
This home is not a place for me'
