I wish I could remember
The days of childhood
When all that I cared about
Was to have fun-
Not worry about my homework
My projects
My pop-quizzes
My reputation

I wish I could remember
Those blissful days
When I knew nothing
Of the cruel world-
Not wanting to see
To hear
To know

I wish I could remember
The old days
When I thought bleeding
Would hurt most-
And not hear the stabbing words
Feel the rough shoves
See the false smiles

I wish I could remember
All the things I lost
Before I realized
That they were gone…
