Not Mine To Begin With

Even if I had all the riches
Of the world
That money would still
Not belong to me

It wouldn't be mine
Regardless of whom I knew
It wouldn't be my success
My glory and adoration
My popularity
My achievements
My golden crown
My worshipping fans
My lifetime plans

Because none of it
Would have ever been mine
The old tales of the golddigger
Dreaming of a life of money
Dreaming of a life of luxury
Every day fair and happy
Winning the lottery
The lifetime dream

But life is cruel
Especially to me
Never getting more than I need
For my soul
Does perpetually bleed
Love a drug I need

But drugs destroy the mind
It hallucinationally
Leaves nightmares
Where you wake with a scream
Your money tricking you
With what you don't need
Yet want, yet desire

The material world
Burning in greed
Burning with envy
Burning with jealousy
Burning with hatred
Burning with evil
Burning with violence
Burning with murder
Burning with rape

And everything must go
God I must know
For I am to be taken
From this material world
Where only the silence of angels
Can be heard.
