Nothing they saw Poem by Geert van Istendael

Nothing they saw

Rating: 3.5

Nothing they saw they could not they would not
see the other gods those other higher gods
unthinkable they were they weren't allowed to be

Yet these higher gods descended
from the mountain tops, they stepped from lofty temples
they followed winding paths downward
shrouded in fog
the higher gods approached
cloaked in wisps of mist
the toxicology of money
the relentless entropy of mammon

The demigod
The raving mages the wizards the initiates
they did not see
the hairline cracks in the gilded garlands split
their naked eye did not observe the gold dust
billow up after a minor tremor
a thousandth of a second

Who could touch them

A bang
a rumble rowed across the virtual space
from west to east
the bashing
of blocks of black basalt and messy marble
crashing down
