Novel Poem by Anne Yun

Novel

Rating: 3.0

'Someone must die! '
She said this and answered why

Hundreds of novels are in my mind
But i dare not to write

What is truer than truth?
Novel! And someone must die!

In the fifth season i must lie
To life where my body dwell and survive

Do not touch my web, little fly!
Your bones are chewed by his single eye!

Do not cut my grossamer, butterfly!
Somewhere your master is weaving night!

Go! Go back to light and say goodbye!
Someone must die! Don't ask why!

It's remarkable how you assume responsibility for this prediction ONE MUST DIE. Instead of seeing it as a technical issue in novel writing, you approach it as a moral issue that you must confront or betray your sense of what's right. Your poem doesn't say this directly - I'm interpreting your feelings and actions in the poem.. The fact that you are rescuing a fly from doom may seem trivial to some readers. I took it as a fable of how serious you are to protect innocence.

I love the brashness of this writing, Anne. It is stark and defiant, your stanzas like fingers poking in my chest as you speak your mind. The sharpness of the imagery in the stanzas of the fly and the butterfly augment the repetition of the the call for someone's death, almost as if a crowd is crying out for blood. This poem strikes like a series of punches. Another fine piece, Anne

Reading a good novel at deep night can lead one to such a dark place! Virginia Woolf said 'Someone must die' in the movie The Hours, and the poet died. Thank you.
