Ode To A Widow Poem by George Bernard Hough

Ode To A Widow

At times he may have made you mad
behaving like a little lad!
Needing you to see him through
As his dependence on you grew.
The living of his daily life
a problem without you, his wife.
But he lit your` day like the high bright sun
And was the rock you leaned upon.

You sit and think of times gone by
Perhaps you have a little cry
A life that had its ups and downs
It had its smiles it had its frowns
But when you take it warts and all
You know for sure that you would fall
For that same man who spent his life
Alongside you, his loving wife.

The little things he didn`t do
Important things they were, to you.
His mind just could not understand
that words could make you feel so grand.
There were no lessons he could take
on how a little touch could make
you feel just like a girl again
longing for her handsome swain.

He did the best that he knew how.
You know he loved you, then, and now.
They`ll live forever in your` mind
the happy times, the loving kind.
So think of him and wear a grin
show you can take it on the chin.
And if your` friends should ask you why?
Say ' I`ll be with him by and by '
