Of Cats And Birds Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Of Cats And Birds

White feathers lie scattered
On the soft green grass
Outside my window
Under the big Banyan tree
Where the Robin was singing
Yesterday morning

Don't know how to feel
Don't know what to feel
Feel happy for the cat?
Sad for the bird?
Oh, these things happen
In this beautiful green world

We survive, we survive
By eating each other
We eat the plants
And the plants eat our remnants
When we mingle with the soil
When we flow with the water

And so the cycle goes
The cycle of life and death
As the earth takes a turn
Round itself and the sun
So that is the story
Of all that is alive or dead
