Odisha Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Odisha

Rating: 5.0

At the edge of my town
Villages abound
With quiet little groves
And quiet little ponds

Coconut trees surround
The sweet water ponds
Wind from their branches
Moving the water around

Sun rays come slanting
Passing through the trees
To light up in patches
The water as it moves

Little patches of lotus
Looking up at the sun
Open their petals
To soak up the warmth

A line of ducks
With cute little ducklings
Emerge from the groves
Early each morning

The village boys bath
And swim around the pond
The village women bath
And wash their clothes

Little silver fishes
Swim under the surface
Jumping up now and then
To vanish in a flash

No more towns do we need
With bricks and grey concrete
Let them not replace
The ponds and quiet groves

A perfect setting of a village life of my state Odisha. So beautifully crafted with a sweet flow. Loved it. Thanks for sharing. 'No more towns do we need With bricks and grey concrete Let them not replace The ponds and quiet groves..'. Most of us want to be back to our villages.10++++
