Am truly enthralled by your heroic epic, Sir Pope
A bit of feedback, take in the right spirit, I hope.
Let me avoid in good faith to be circumspect.
The epic was inspired, I believe by true incident.

‘Belinda’s eyes flashed lightening on rape of lock
Filled with indignation, shrieked with shock’.
Honestly Sir am not here to just condemn or argue
I agree, a lot of fuss is made over trivial issues.

But rape of lock made of tantalising hair
Or one of shiny brass is called theft to be fair.
It’s good to laugh, kiss and (no pun intended) make up.
But Belinda’s woes were overflowing from the cup.

Baron for sure showed lack of breeding and taste
And thus lost his lady love, by acting in haste.
High or low, decency behoves everyone, even gentleman
Or he loses respect of the object of his ardour- woman.

Your craftsmanship undoubtedly drives the point home
By clever and dexterous use of device called hyperbole.
In simple language its called robbery and trespassing.
What if he lost his head at locks so alluring plus inviting.

Your epic has no parallel in all poetry or literature
Its so compelling, none has reached such stature.
‘What evil offence from am’rous causes spring?
What mighty contests rise from trivial things? ’

Turn that frown upside down, I hope.
A bit of decorum eases life, Sir Pope.
Nevertheless, its pointless to have short fuse,
And pick up quarrels and heap abuse.

I'm sure Sir Alexander Pope would have turned speechless in his grave. A wonderfully written piece with excellent rhyme and flow.

An interesting depiction here... A lot heard and read about this comic epic An arrow at the plank of trendy society Becomes famous history at the cost of pope's critic Cut off a lock of hair.... and the morale of then society. Belinda's cry... when... could occupy the whole space Then obvious... the culprit becomes part of history. Without getting much deeper into the glitch.. your credit to the poet, Is worth reading, many a times.

A critical and frank review of Pope's Rape of lock. I admit, I didn't read that book more than two pages.........But your work is too great to describe. Beauty.

mamtaji a suberb and befitting ode to the great poet... full justice there and well interjected refs.... i recall from the bard the evil that men do, lives long after them but the good is oft interred with the bones....with an apology to the purists great piece cheers and ten

A very well crafted poem Mamta ji! This poem was in our college text during the first year! A few young people had requested me for guidance & comments, and I had recommended Pope to insipre their rhyming sense! And one young boy amongst them, had even featured in PH's 'First 500', along with Pope, Keats and Shakespeare himself! So good old Pope must be really great? ! 10 + -Raj
