Old Wes 05 (Limerick)

Old Wes is ecstatic, with reason.
Something just happened that's pleasin'.
Here I must emphasize:
He did not win a prize,
But his Blue Jays are in the post season.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Just finished watching the American League Wild Card Game. The Baltimore Orioles traveled to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays. One game, winner moves on and loser goes home until next year.

In the bottom of the ninth, with the score 2-2, Josh Donaldson led off with a double. Edwin Encarnacion was walked intentionally to set up a potential double play. Jose Bautista struck out, and then Russell Martin did hit into a double play to end the inning.

Bottom of the eleventh inning, still 2-2. Travis singles to left. (He had grounded into TWO double plays earlier in the game.)Donaldson swings on the first pitch and singles to left field. When the fielder bobbles the ball, Travis moves on to third. Donaldson does not advance to second. Encarnacion also swings on the first pitch and blasts the ball into the bleachers. Jays win 5-2.

Dedicated to my Canadian friend, Wes Vogler, a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Re-posted 1 November 2018 (Encarnacion is no longer with the Blue Jays, and they did not make the post season this year. The Boston Red Sox defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers four games to one to win the World Series.)
