On My Daughter's 42nd Birthday Poem by Bri Edwards

On My Daughter's 42nd Birthday

On My Daughter's 42nd Birthday

Thanks for believing I'm your dad.
If you didn't believe me, I'd be sad.

[After all, it was ME, alone, who knocked 'Mom' up,
though 'twas SHE who raised you as her own pup! ]

In the Labor Room I held Mom's hand, and did more, ya know
....to try getting her mind off what was happenin' 'Down Below'.

[She needed an episiotomy so 'out' you could 'blow'.
Then, once 'out', her 'Doc', his helpful-cut, could sew.]

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
An episiotomy is a surgical procedure where a small incision is made in the area between a woman's vagina and anus (perineum) during childbirth. It's not as widely used as it once was. 'Knock up' is rude slang meaning to impregnate a woman.
