On This New Year Poem by Mohammad Muzzammil

On This New Year

As if upon the tongue of love
A blister rose, searing with pain above.
From civilization's tender arms,
A bangle broke, bereft of its charms.
From history's jeweled ring so grand,
A sapphire fell, slipped from its band.
And lo, as Earth did read the skies' lament,
A sorrowed missive by Heaven sent,
Thus, the New Year, somber and pale,
In solemn guise, began its tale.
