ONE-EYED DEER
I never realized your greatness
when you were there with me
I never knew exactly where the shoe pinches
and the road is marked with bloodstains
when everything was assured
rice fields cattle friends
flatterers thronged like bees
and I never realized loneliness
why the heart aches in the midnight
now I have known what is poverty
I know hunger and need of sharing
why one hand is incomplete without the other
I realize now how one ear feels
without the cooperation of the other
so today I can’t be an one-eyed deer
even if the world so desires
