Only To Regret (Sonnet) Poem by Perdita Young (Hanna Wang)

Only To Regret (Sonnet)

I still remember that day you came to me,
Your eyes are clear and tender, and so bright;
You stood in the lane, a youthful leafy tree,
Off giving wafts of scent, in the breeze light.
I remember pouting 'n frowning for no sense,
For fear my dawning love betrayed in jeers.
So many nights I wept, a kind of nuisance,
Could it be destiny? I owe you tears.
Attached, I kept the regret unheeded go,
Dust-laden, locked and jailed, convict of death row.
The bitter fruit, I will it swallow alone,
No more of it now, to seas of woe I'd prone.
I'd put on dream brocade and gaze afar,
For letter-loading swans from you, dear star!
