The language we learned from our mother,
This is our Bengali language.
Before dawn even breaks, the birds
Sing songs for the sake of the language;
What magic there is in the Bengali tongue—
Even bees gather honey while singing.
The Bengali language, bathed in the blood of February,
Is a free and independent language.
The language of millions upon millions of hearts,
Loved by thousands of poets—
The Bengali language.
Letters of many colors
Are scattered across the blue sky;
Forgetting themselves, they rush along,
Like rows of white herons.
Animals, birds, and insects—
All are enchanted by their mother tongue,
Intimate with the language,
Like a torn sari-end upon the mother's body.
The hope of every gifted and wise soul
Is a complete and flourishing mother tongue—
The Bengali language.
This is our Bengali language.
