Our Gods Poem by Abhay Vignesh Liginlal

Our Gods

This world is ours my love
The paddy fields stretching beyond the horizon
The birds departing to their nests at dusk
The sun vanishing behind the vales
The sea lengthening from shore to shore;

When sleep comes to bless my eyes with dreams
They are all about you alone
A life fated to be not mine;

We are prisoners in our own dungeons
The cursed barrier of caste creed and religion
Accursed as we are in our own dungeons
We have our own gods
Though the world is ours;

Opponents shake hands
They can never be friends
They are separated by duties;

I pray to my god and yours
To grant me another life with you
Another life in which there is just one god.
