Our Laws Doze In Booze Poem by Rajendran Muthiah

Our Laws Doze In Booze

When the Media highlight
the pay-offs routed in Chopper(Helicopter) deal,
a daily occurrence in Tamil Nadu
flashed through my mind.
The ‘Choppers' with which
the paid-killers cut the heads
of local politicians or public servants
in public on a sunny day
and surrender before the Law
to avoid death sentence
and to ensure ‘Life',
with tasty food and snacks.
Our Laws let them free after a few years
as no one who have seen the scene of murder
dares to tell it before the judges.
In case they dare, their chance of living
on this beauteous earth is rare.
Many a god of death is at large
in this monsters- breeding country.

For a murder done in public
before the shocked and alarmed eyes,
the Courts need a witness
to punish the callous killers
who take law unto their hands
and dictate to cops to file FIR
with loopholes for them to escape.
The bloodthirsty Tartarians
Chop off the heads of human beings
in the middle of the streets, in buses and cars,
in the premises of the Courts, in Police-Stations
in Market places and while celebrating festivals.
But ‘No Witness' makes these gods
to go scot free, collect payouts,
contest in the elections and bring glory to Assemblies.
This is how people whisper while standing in queues
before the ration-shops or the mutton stalls.
