Our Masks 2 Poem by David Harris

Our Masks 2

We all use masks to hide our emotions
even from the ones we love.
We do it to hide our misgivings
so they do not hurt the ones we love.
Hoping our betrayals will never come out.
Sometimes our conscience overcomes
and our confessing puts a hold on everything we have.

Sometimes we use masks
to hide who we really are,
wanting others not to
intrude into our lives
when we want to seek
the solace of ourselves.
We cover ourselves behind several masks
to enjoy the life others have.
