Outside The Mall Poem by Kondwelani Tembo Nguluwe

Outside The Mall

Outside the mall
I sat
across from this gorgeous woman
She was
a goddess
of a woman
Probably born
of an angel
of life,
not man

I did not notice her
immediately I got there
My gaze was
quite elsewhere
And she
just sat there

Where
I was,
as usual,
busy with my writing
It's a hobby,
I do it when my fingers sting
You already know
that's my thing...

Like a call
to receive her gaze,
I looked up
And there she was,
her class
way up
I gauged the situation
right up

It was nothing
like I had ever seen
This moment
should be better
than where I have been
I know
with the ones before this
I have been mean...

A mixture
of chocolate, milk
and butter on a pie
Soft like silk
I saw
even at that distance
with my eye

Like
I spy
with my little eye
Something unseen
by the human eye
Somebody
wave hi...

I made
a quick decision
I did
it with quick precision
Like it was
a quirk profession

-I waved over
for the waiter
At the far
table with
a tray of water
My gaze
unchanged
and without falter

He came
quick like a summoned
house elf
Not even panting
beside himself
As I said
I love that shelf

- Where did you get it?
