Phobia-Phobe Poem by Edmund V. Strolis

Phobia-Phobe

Rating: 5.0

A land without borders, trampled and tattered
Disdain for all of those who feel this should matter
A rainbow of people whose allegiance is bought
Noble people of color disdain those who are not

No tradition will remain, not in books or in speech
And history is something to keep out of reach
For fear, I suppose, that some pride may slip in
When guilt is the drum that is beaten within

Holier than thou, the megaphone screeches
Young minds swell with the stories it preaches
Starry eyed dreamers are all led astray
Lazy cows grazing their dull days away

The cost of your future will be common sense
Tiny whiny voices blackmail governments
Tail chasing dogs form a circle ever growing
A canine parade unaware of where it's going

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I hear people agreeing with the John Lennon quote. The same people that don't see the hypocrisy in that EVERYTHING they do is based on color or gender. For me I could care less and yet the tolerant crowds insists that I treat groups in a special way. Giving special treatment to ANY group is inevitably at the expense of another. I am only interested in meeting true individuals of any stripe. People hide in numbers, black, white, gay groups.....bore me.

Sometimes circumstances limit associations but one can never go wrong by treating everyone exactly the same

Hi Edmund, Very strong and relevant idea, echoing the teaching (may I say so!) of Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. And of course, the inimitable voice of John Lennon. Nothing of your personal traits matters. What matters is how you live, what your contribution to humanity is, what you leave here when you take leave of... Yes, what you could do for your fellow human being... As Bhagavat Gita proclaims Karmanye Vaadhikaraste Ma phaleshu Kadachana What matters is whether you have done/completed your duty to the humanity! It is not the result of your deeds that matters. Because, results are not in our hands. And you should detach yourselves from the desire to achieve a specific result, because, such desire would hamper your deeds. And Ma karmaphala heturbhur- Ma sangostu akarmani Relinquishing desire for results of your deeds, does not mean that you can ever think of keeping away from completing your duties. It is very hard to practice. But all of us can endeavour to. Edmund, your poem echoes what Gita says too. Very philosophical work. Would love to come back and read again. Thank you for sharing.

I fully agree with your sentiments. Personal sentiments should be personal. Each to their own. A wise man walks alone to follow his instinct instead of the zombies who follow general rules of acceptance, even to the extent of hating what they don't understand. Lovely poem Eddie

A strong write on socio-political scenario. Societies lack cohesion today. There is a lot of grouping and every group is clamoring for rights. Individual value of a human is almost lost in this pro or anti world. A thoughtful n thought-provoking write.
