Portrait Of A Young Woman Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Portrait Of A Young Woman

she grabbed her things
and tiptoed out the door.
That morning sun knocked out, snoring.
slob hanging from its lip.
memories wild and sweet.
her heels dangling from her hand.
impatient.
got a DM in the middle of the night.
"come quick. I miss you."
those distant memories come pouring in
like the rain.
swaying against the pane.
cloudy days are sometimes hard to see before the
sun fully rises and stretches.
she grabbed her things
and tiptoed out the door.
Leaving the lock open.
Nowadays that ole sun careful.
sleeping with one eye open.
she can't tiptoe so easy where she's at now.
she often wonders what could've been.
a deep sigh, listening to the rain sway against
the pane.
she can't tiptoe where she's at now.
Those black heels stuffed somewhere
in a box in the closet.
that old new man won't let her.
those new doors don't open so quick.
that ole sun shines a lot brighter, in the direction
she should've stayed.
now wiser.
