Potato Famine

I knew the names of the Bisquick generation
And I hid a response to their silly paradise smiles
That scarcity you use to sell durable goods
It runs hard into candor's cliff face

Bespoken calm is shaky on the deck
Lavatory simile manufacturers grumble over personal recollections
And comparison lifeboats that take on water fast
A dip in the warm odorous waste system

That dependency makes you as attractive as someone that has been sprayed by a skunk
And the appendage is not favored by asymptomatic hordes
Who yell "do something" at your fragility but when pressed can offer no specific suggestions

They never came to our table, brought neither breadsticks nor water
I brought icepick eyes and the tongue of the frozen north
But kept both of these under wraps
My neighbors cannot know what I have until it becomes absolutely necessary
