Pour Ma Soeur Jamaiquaine Un Peu Perdue Sur L'ile De Manhattan

petite
et ardente en cet endroit froid
de la brique
du ciment
du sable sec
et
du verre casse
ou il y a des eaux
de la terre
qui coulent comme l'amour vif
tu vas les faire
des eaux chauds
tres chauds (meme)
comme la sueur delicate
des lis tigres
s'epanouissant
a peine enflammes
au lever du soleil

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
June's sister is not necessarily family. The sister is new in Manhattan. I likethis open form poem- the imagery: 'waters flowing like love alive', ' like the sweat of tiger lilies'. The antithesis: ' the cold place' (either weather or emotional or impersonal)and the 'warm or even hot waters'. I have seen DVDs of New York, in which the waters of the ocean and rivers combine with the high-rise buildings of Manhattan to make a very impressive sight.
