Poverty - Poem by Konjit Berhane

The poor
The homeless
The mother
The father
The son
The daughter
One by one
Died of hunger

The aunt
The uncle
The niece
The cousin
Followed them later

Oh! Poverty
Killing all the makers of history
Will you and I live to see
Poverty being history?

I've been reading through quite a lot of your poetry, Konjit, and I find it fresh and young but at the same time much of it is deep and holds a message. I will continue to read it. I like this one for its simpliciity and for the last two lines, which finish it off brilliantly.

    Love, Fran xx

All the more moving for its simplicity. The stark truth needs no elaboration. Well done, Konjit. Love Eve x (Report)Reply

I think Chirs gave good advice that I should learn myself, that said, I enjoyed this poem, the message about how people suffer in the world is very important and the way you expressed it using family members made me feel it as I read it. (Report)Reply

i´d really loved this one, it´s, i don´t know, well it´s real and sad and true....
anyway, i think we have the same prob writting, i always use rhymes i already know or that i´ve heard in songs and that makes my writing boring, it´s almost the same everytime....
anyway, i liked your poems much more than mine, you´re gonna be a great writter some day, just keep going :)
