Psalm 2

By Uriah Lee Hamilton

Why do the cruel
breathe threats
with every breath?
Why so many
vain and empty thoughts?
The self-appointed important people
go stone-faced with evil intent,
political thugs congregate
to manipulate and propagate hate
against the innocent and vulnerable, saying,
'Let's plunder to the last penny
and siphon the last drop of hope.'
Divine Powers, protective deities,
pay attention to the plots of the merciless
and overturn their negative desires.
The universal good will speak psychically
to the mean-spirited until they comprehend
the damage they have done.
The king of freely offered dignity
will sit enshrined on every holy hill;
I will make known the love for the lowly,
I will insist on the security of the long vanquished ones.
The treacherous will falter and give their wealth
to the kind and the grateful.
Those who desire ill will toward another
will become like a broken plate or a twisted fork,
entirely impossible to function for their own hunger and well being.
Seek spiritual wisdom if you have the influence
on a single soul, pursue the very knowledge
for your own emotional survival.
Serve the good of others, help your neighbors attain
a place of calm enlightenment.
Kiss the stranger and the forlorn like a parent,
let anger disappear like a flower petal blown away in a breeze.
