Punya And Paap (Merits And Sins) Poem by Rm. Shanmugam Chettiar

Punya And Paap (Merits And Sins)

When you do something good to someone,
You have earned Punya (merit) in your account.
Punya is an act that benefits others.
Actions under virtue (Dharma) qualify for it.

When you do something bad for someone,
You have earned Paap (sin) in your account.
Paap is an act that make others suffer.
Actions against dharma qualify for it.

The points added to your Punya and Paap
Vary according to the strength of acts
And to the ability of the person.
Relativity is the rule of the game.

Bringing solace to the wearing soul
Must rank highest in one's Punya account.
Ruining one's career or existence
Must rank highest in one's Paap account.

Withholding philanthropy is a paap act
Only to the rich and not to a beggar.
Punishing the culprit isn't a paap act
To the king but to the fellow being.

Punya is credit and Paap is debit.
Punya in excess, you get a blessed life.
Paap in excess, you get a cursed live.
Believe it to bring harmony in life.
