(for a photograph of fall leaves by Klyd Watkins)
... ... ... ... ... ...
Most leaves have cast their vote for winter;
meanwhile, some leaves are still imagining summer.
Why does the leafage resemble desultory, little daubs?
The original leaf pattern has been randomly stripped by wind.
The season's time is the order of the day,
but each leaf has its own time
to cross over from thriving to failing.
There are so many leaf stems holding on;
the timing of abscission cannot be uniform.
It is small wonder that our deciduous minds finds a soulmate in the leaves that have ‘cast their vote for winter". The revelation that "Each leaf has its own time" come the Fall, winter or summer, is thrilling. Great poem. Top score

The fall weather provokes so many thoughts and contemplation. Leaves are a powerful reminder of time tested cycle of life. Great poem.
