Recent Happenings. Poem by Safiyyah Manjra

Today I got accepted into my local medical school.
As a back-up in case funding for the PhD doesn't take the rule.

I grew up with a sister being partially blind.
I myself also had diagnosis which were hard to find.

Medical doctor visits were regular.
I would be a friend of the nebulizer.

As I grew older I wanted to be more like the doctor.
Who would always help me and my sister.

Before taking a big leap something in me,
Made me do a first degree in biochemistry.

I found reading research articles made me uncontrollably happy.
I too, wanted to contribute to research along the lines of that same category.

Medical sciences,
Preferably, neurosciences.

My PhD is away in the United Kingdom.
However medical school is here with family and little freedom.

Part of me wants to give medical school a try,
At the same time I can't imagine telling research goodbye.
