Red Lights Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Red Lights

I decided to take a ride to clear my mind
I grabbed my car keys, sat in the driver seat and proceeded to drive.
Turning the ignition backing down the driveway
No good tunes on the radio
AM or FM
Didn't feeling like going through the hassle of connecting my bluetooth
I let the windows down revealing myself from behind darkened glass
Driving through the city seemed so mundane
Too many coincidences
So many stop signs
I took the scenic route avoiding as many street lights as I could
But couldn't avoid them all.
Yellow casings consisting of memories held above by lines of wire.
The thoughts that came and went cruising at a smooth 60 mph
Avoiding the red orbs of light
The thoughts of people who no longer love us
Left behind
Forlorn
Stagnant
I took the scenic route avoiding as many street lights as I could
But couldn't avoid them all on the way home
