Bathed in the lifeless gloom of destiny
She stood on the rugged, scraggy landscape.
She counted not, what she had done and what she hadn't,
To shelter the turmoil from befalling
Her hair flying, she stood still
Her lips trembled with pain, her eye lids dropped not for once
And not a single betrayed teardrop
She failed to feel any longer
Sheer delight - her part of the battle was over
Pure pains - steeped in latent agony
All strength lost - fate had stabbed it to death
A halo of prophetic dogma around her
She watched the Sea in commotion - celebrating its victory
She heard its uproar - mocking her life's upheaval
Her mother drowning in grief, her sister mourning the eternal loss
Her family - now a fragment of the creed of Aron islands
The Sea was everywhere her eyes pursued; everywhere it escaped
It reached the niche of each house of the Irish isle
And dampened every crevice with tragedy
She could seek refuge in the grave now
The Sea consumed that not
Despondency, desperation made the words bold
Her words submerged;
The yonder wide horizon sunk in gold
"The Sea! O Devil! Why couldn't you let them be!
Return to me…
My Riders To The Sea"
The sea does give a person a reflection in a strange way. It seems to bring out our true inner feelings and self.
