Forty-five hymns of Rig Veda have
verses praising River Saraswati,
three hymns are wholly dedicated to her
reiterating her existence in Vedic times.
Nadeestuti Sooktam in Rig Veda
praises her as ‘great among the great'!
created vast, limitless, unbroken,
swift-moving and mother of waters.
The Sooktam lists great rivers
from the Easternmost Ganga,
next to her in the West is Yamuna,
then, ‘the most sacred Saraswati';
It goes on to name Shutudri,
Parushni, Asikni, Marudvridha,
Vitasta, Arjikiya and Sushoma,
in the geographical order towards west.
Thus, the hymn clearly elucidates
that Saraswati flowed between
the rivers Yamuna and Sutlej
confirming its location with no doubt.
Purus, ithe dynasty of kings
who were the progeny of Puru
the son of Emperor Yayati
had their kingdom on her banks.
