Road To Glory Or Road To Ruin Poem by Paula Glynn

Road To Glory Or Road To Ruin

A Road To Glory

I shall be a star,
I will light up the stage,
And have vast riches,
People will bow down,
I will be worshipped,
Like a god or goddess,
No evil shall touch me,
No foot shall I trip over,
My head will be held high,
As I stand tall and proud,
Saying my opinions aloud,
Angels will watch over me,
My lucky charms shall protect me,
The children I bear,
Will never suffer neglect,
My enemies will hold back in fear,
Hoping I never discover them,
My gold will keep me grand,
I shall rule the land,
My crown of jewels,
Sparkling in the moonlight.
As I celebrate with sheer delight.

Road To Ruin

I shall be a star,
But I know I will never,
Light up the stage,
My photo will yellow and age,
People will mock and spit,
Rather than bow down,
Their king of fools,
Not deserving respect,
Evil shall rule my life,
Infecting my soul,
With its poison,
Nightmares will wake me at night,
In winter I shall freeze,
My head low with shame,
Living in a cold, cold town,
No angel to watch over me,
My children to feel the curse,
Of a doomed and empty life,
A life of the road to ruin,
And no lucky charm can save me,
No lottery win on the cards,
All hope like water down the drain,
And no matter the train,
Every town is the same;
Lonely, cold and cruel to the core,
Like a maggot hiding in an apple,
And I wear this crown of thorns,
No success gone, vanished,
But you have yours,
And you got it right,
But somehow I got it wrong.

A lovely write Paula - detailing the two sides of road ahead in our life. But I believe that if you're cautious and conscious about the darker side of life, you will surely be able to avoid a lot of it's stinkers. Wish you all luck.
