Rosa Poem by gershon hepner

Rosa

Rating: 4.5

Only one man sat behind
Ms. Rosa Parks, and he looked glum,
an image in the viewer’s mind
of heartbeats on a bigot’s drum
whose rhythm is quite out of sync
with that of people who’re enlightened.
He was a journalist, no fink
who feared a world that wasn’t whitened.
The heroism we have bought
was basically a photo-op;
what we polemically are taught
is hype which hopes to make us hop.

Nice poem, well-crafted and concise. A solid 9. Of course the photo was a re-creation, Ms Parks's original act of courage was not done as a photo-op & was only recorded in the criminal record. This was an attempt, not to pass it off as the original act but was always or should have been noted as a re-creation so there could be some way of visually feeding Ms. Parks's heroism to the public, else the civil rights movement might have been much delayed in taking off.
