Roses & Chocolate Covered Strawberries Poem by Kewayne Wadley

Roses & Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Not everything can be roses &
chocolate covered strawberries,
However precious the memory.
There are things we simply
do not talk about because they are
things that we simply can not.
While it's not impossible to swallow
a rose.
I have swallowed more than a dozen
when it comes to you.
The thorns being the hardest
to digest.
It is within these moments someone
feels the need to apologize in
consideration to the easiest thing
to digest.
In actually, there is a garden full
of these same roses.
Within these moments
You pick one & bury it deep,
Without need to return.
We do not talk about it
Because we can not.
These same roses are left to wilt
& Die without proper care.
Not everything can be roses &
chocolate covered strawberries.
Eventually these roses will have
no room left to breathe.
You'll make that same face
You'll no longer want to listen.
You'll pluck another rose from
the garden & shove it into
my mouth & walk away eating the
strawberries.
While it is not impossible to swallow
a rose,
I have swallowed more than a dozen
When it comes to you
I too shall wilt
because they are things that we
simply can not talk about
