Sanctuary Cove Poem by Dawn Novus

Sanctuary Cove

Under the welcome home mat

She felt for the smooth gold key

Through the corridors of undefined dreams

Each days final end she would with relief sink

And Oh..the sweet intoxicating surrender

To a place where the pain in her slumbered

And better to her no dream at all

Oblivion her lovely friend

And when Lord, and when would it end?

And she cried to the God in the sky above

Why would you make me if this is Your love?

And the answer was more of the silence

And she drowned in the night of her blindness

But a voice deep inside her though faint

And she heard the sound of soft lapping waves

Tentative one eye opened then the other

And to her relief the dream was a beach

The whitest sand that you ever did see

Translucent and looking down she saw

The mother Gaia's selfless heart still beating

Ever forgiving of her destructive children

Asante, asante Mother she called

Let me tell you I love you, asante earth mother

Tender her heart felt and looked around her dream scape

There a tall boy lifts a conch shell to light lips

And heralds the sound of perfection in an ocean breeze

It plays through her hair and glints on the sea

She has been waiting to exhale and in letting go

Her chest fills with the light dancing on the waves

Oh please let this dream never end she says

Out of the hypnotic azure and light cristened haze

The colour of red to end all reds steals her heart

Adorning the Pohutakawa the red rose of the Cove

And she sees she's not alone but many are there

Tears falling from eyes upturned in joy

The beauty quite overwehlming

And the waves peace in sound gentle in touch

Heal her fractured heart in no time

This place of paradise she calls Sanctuary Cove

And feels the pull back through the corridors

And imprints on her heart her dream sanctuary

To take her through another day up there in the big way

Fortified she comes back up and straights her back

Her head goes up in courage to face

But, before her opened eyes she hears a gentle wave lapping

The Cove it sounds to her, and her eyes slowly open

To the sight of the whitest sand

You ever did see and she had fallen

Asleep upon this translucent beach of dreams

And a tall boy plays a song of hope upon a shell

The song of Sanctuary Cove he is playing

The people with the red cove roses in their hair

Are laughing with the wind of pure azure joy

And peace is not a word but a rainbow round a dolphin

Jumping with the joy of heaven opened

This was not a dream she pinched her skin

Dipping bare feet in the light rimmed waves

This is the Dawn of a Golden Day they said

Give thanks to God above always

This Cove of Sanctuary is here to stay.

That opened each night to
The corridors of sleep

Subterranean labyrinth in search
