Searching Poem by Brooke Luchich

Searching

Rating: 4.8

A girl running and searching but never finding what she’s looking for,
Each path is a dead end and she doesn’t even know what she seeks anymore.
Lost and confused never knowing which way she should go now,
But still she refuses to give up searching; she has to find her way somehow.
The darkness is always there and it’s something she just can’t out run,
She wishes for light and wonders if one day she’ll again see the sun.
Sadness and failure washes over her with each day that passes her by,
It’s like she’s forgotten how to smile and now she only knows how to cry.
She keeps hoping and dreaming of tomorrow being a better day,
She misses her friends and family but she was the one who pushed them away.
Each day she continues looking and pushing aside all thoughts of her past,
It feels as though she’s in an ongoing race and always coming last.
Emotional and withdrawn all the time, she’s forgotten who she used to be,
She no longer remembers the last time she actually felt happy.
Her reflection always shows a frown for that is her only expression,
She remembers it’s been this way since she was diagnosed with depression.
As she stares at her reflection suddenly it all becomes clear,
The reason she’s been searching, the reason for why she’s here.
Then a smile appears where the frowns and sad looking girl once were,
She looks at the smile and remembers all this time, she was looking for her.
